Can you believe the 39th annual
Festival in the Park (and the unofficial start
of summer here in the Roanoke Valley) is just around
the corner. And do we have a great Memorial Day
weekend shaping up! 5 nights of great
concerts and 3 days of FREE family fun. We've got
old favorites and new
twists so be certain to check out all the activities
listed throughout the
weekend and make your plans to spend at least a
part of your holiday with us
in the heart of downtown Roanoke. And what about
the concert lineup - boy
if you can't find a concert (or two) to get you
excited you just don't like
live music. And the great news is the Jumbotron
screen is back again this
year so every spot in Elmwood Park is a great
place to enjoy the
concerts.

To enhance and promote the visual and performing
arts and sports activities in the Roanoke Valley
and surrounding areas, to generate a positive economic
impact on the Valley, and to fund an
Arts Scholarship Program.

I am honored to serve as President during our
39th annual celebration of the
arts, music and family. In five short days, Festival
packs a huge punch.
For your 'sneak preview' - musically, we're having
a rock legend, a country
super group, a Tina Turner Show tribute band, one
of the finalists from last
year's American Idol, and a good-looking country
star who has topped the
charts with several hits. Also, returning is the
ever popular 1964: The
Tribute. Each and every night is packed full of
top notch entertainment -
be sure to browse our web site for all the details.
During
the daytime hours - you'll have to strategically
plan everything you
want to see and do, or you'll run out of time.
Do not miss the living
statue (new this year) it is amazing! See a poodle
show and visit the
Antique Car Show. The children's area will have
a "Pirate" theme complete
with Jack Sparrow making balloon hats, animals,
magic and juggling. You'll
want to buy a hand-crafted item from the Verizon
Yellow Pages Fine Art &
Craft Show, visit the Youth Art Show (be sure to
vote for your favorite
while there) and see the African Trickster puppet
show. Or you could just
relax on the ground, eat yummy food and listen
to the wonderful local and
regional talent found on our five performing arts
stages.
